Dr. Daniel Williams is a board-certified, fellowship-trained orthopedic surgeon specializing in sports medicine, including ACL reconstruction, knee and shoulder arthroscopy, rotator cuff repair, and other sports-related injuries and general orthopedic conditions.    

As a sports medicine specialist, Dr. Williams’ focus is broader than athletes alone. It’s about mobility and quality of life. He loves working collaboratively with each patient, whether a teenager with an ACL tear or an 80-year-old with shoulder degeneration.    

He seeks to understand each person’s goals. For one, the objective is to get in and out of a car without knee pain. For another, it’s getting back to playing college basketball.    

Dr. Williams explores all options, whether surgical or not. He aims to help patients achieve better function with less pain, enabling people to regain mobility and return as much as possible to the activities and movements they love.    

He brings a wealth of experience in sports medicine to Indiana Orthopedic Institute, previously practicing with American Health Network/Optum Bone and Spine Group and Orthopedic Specialists at Franciscan Health in Indianapolis. At Franciscan Health, his roles included Orthopaedic Section Chief and Lead Orthopedic Physician to the Franciscan Family Practice Residency.   

Dr. Williams has also served as a team physician at Perry Meridian High School in Indianapolis and Chapman University in Orange, CA. His research has focused on meniscus repair in patients undergoing ACL reconstruction and on the treatment of proximal humerus fractures, which are fractures in the upper arm near the shoulder joint.    

A native of Fort Wayne, he studied chemistry with a minor in Latin at Indiana University. He earned his medical degree from the IU School of Medicine.  

He completed his orthopedic surgery residency at the Grand Rapids Medical Education and Research Center, part of the Michigan State University College of Human Medicine. Dr. Williams’ fellowship was with the Kaiser Permanente Irvine Sports Medicine Fellowship.    

He is a fellow of the American Academy of Orthopaedic Surgeons and is a member of the Mid-America Orthopaedic Association.   

Dr. Williams has a full life outside of medicine, including his family with five children. He also enjoys water sports, boating, running, golf, camping, and playing guitar. He is a big Hoosiers fan and loves Hawaii, with family roots in Kauaʻi.
