David Conrad, MD

Dr. David Conrad is the Director of Anesthesia for Indiana Orthopedic Institute and oversees its perioperative clinic, playing a pivotal role in its integrated model of orthopedic surgical care in an outpatient setting.

A physician with vast experience, Dr. Conrad has administered anesthesia in about 18,000 cases, focusing on orthopedic anesthesia to minimize post-surgical pain and emphasizing mobility. Patients then feel empowered to be up and walking shortly after surgery.

One of the aspects of care Dr. Conrad loves most about Indiana Orthopedic Institute is the tightly integrated care teams and the close communication that helps evaluate and prepare patients for outpatient surgery. With that close collaboration starting in the perioperative clinic, patients arrive on surgery day fully prepared, move better, and recover more comfortably at home, leading to better outcomes. He works with our care team and patients in Noblesville, Terre Haute, and Fort Wayne.

Dr. Conrad’s experience in anesthesia also includes working in a busy Level I trauma center and as a member of large physician groups. Before joining Indiana Orthopedic Institute, he served as a partner at Anesthesia Consultants of Indianapolis and as an anesthesiologist with Indiana University Health Physicians.

He is board-certified by the American Board of Anesthesiology. He is also a member of numerous professional organizations, including the American Society of Anesthesiologists and the American Society of Regional Anesthesia and Pain Medicine.

A Hoosier native, Dr. Conrad grew up on his family’s poultry farm, with several hundred thousand chickens laying eggs. He earned his undergraduate degree from Taylor University in Upland, IN, majoring in biology with a minor in history. He earned his medical degree from the University of Michigan Medical School. Dr. Conrad continued his training with a transitional year at Ascension St. Vincent Hospital in Indianapolis and as an anesthesiology resident at the Indiana University School of Medicine.

Outside of work, he loves spending time with his family, especially traveling, hiking, and being outside. He and his wife have three daughters.
